Here is a video post on alignment. …when I said I was “horrified” at how my posture was, I was being a little dramatic- I wasn’t horrified I was just a little shocked because I thought I was aligned and obviously wasn’t.

Love it. I toggled between :53 and 1:07 just to watch you dance 🙂 I’m going to repost on the Aligned and Well FB site 🙂
Thanks Katy! It’s my first video post, and I almost didn’t post it because I think I look and sound pretty goofy, but what the hell- I am who I am. Plus its a great way for people absorb the content. I know it helped me to see you in the webinars and then hear the material again over and over at certification week- I finally went ohhh now I get it.
Very nice post. I don’t know you, but you didn’t sound or look funny to me at all. I’m one of Katy’s puppies in training and, you’re right, it helps to see this information over and over from different people. Thanks for posting. And I really like the ‘training a puppy’ image. I’ll remember that one!! 🙂
well done!
Really good illustration! Will have to try it.
I’ve been reading your other posts (I found you via katysays.com). Very interesting stuff, it is a shame I live so far from any Maya Abdominal Therapy practicioners.
This morning I was checking my husband’s alignment-making him stand in front of a chair and back his hips up so the backs of his legs touched the chair (which helped me realize that I was tucking my pelvis even though I didn’t think I was). He’s taller and his big calves touched the chair without needing to back his hips up. Of course he thinks he’s all that and has perfect alignment, but he has lost his lumbar curve and has foot, knee, hip, and back pain so I’m convinced that he’s not doing something right. He didn’t want to stand there long enough for me to analyze his foot placement and see how he was stacked…I will test him with the plumb line as you demonstrated–great visual!! For the record, I didn’t think you sounded goofy at all–you sound knowledgable! I am a fairly new follower of Katy Says and I need as much help as I can get so I’ll be obsessively following your blog as well 🙂 Thank you!
Good work with the blog! I think it will be rely helpful for people to hear and see the same info in another person’s words. I really liked the monkey bar post. Ive been hanging from my apple tree and experimenting with just relaxing and keeping ribs down, hips unflexed, and scapula apart and down. Someday I will be able to do a pull up I hope. I’ m in eastern OR, so sometime when I make it to Portland I will set up an appointment. I’d love to get a RES’s eyes on my alignment. It is pretty hard to evaluate yourself.
Hi Liz, Thanks for checking out my posts. I’m currently working on developing a Hands on Health, Healing the Maya Way webinar class to reach people who don’t have a Maya abdominal practitioner in their area.
Thank you Beth. I really like Katy’s chair idea. Good luck with your husband- mine finally gets it and is reminding me of my alignment whenever I slip up!
Maura! You are close to me too! Whoot whoot!
Yes! My husband loves that part of WA so he is excited that I will want to take a trip there sometime. It is really hard to get me to go on a road trip because I hate riding in the car. Sometimes it is worth it though.
I just saw this for the first time after Katy recently posted the link on her Neutral Pelvis blog. The way you illustrate this technique for self analysis is brilliant. I have been trying to gauge my alignment for months by looking at myself sideways in the mirror but it was hard to know if I was really lined up. Now, using a band like you have shown, has helped me to see that I was actually getting it correct a lot of the time. Thanks!
“wow, awesome post. Thanks Again. Much obliged.”
I have been surfing online more than three hours these days, yet I never found any interesting blog like yours. It’s lovely worth enough for me.
Thanks so much!
Very helpful
I found you on facebook via Cave Girl Eats. I’ve been wanting to do a standing workstation at work for ages, but since I’m in the front office and the first thing ones sees on entering, I’ve been hesitant to broach this with my boss. I’m inspired. Thanks! I love your shoes. what brand and style???
Hi Karen,
Yeah, that would be awkward, perhaps you could move your workstation to another location? A note from your doctor is always helpful when trying to persuade your boss to letting you have a standing workstation.
The shoes that I’m wearing Jambu barefoot shoes. I have them listed on this post, but I’m not sure if they make the black ones with black straps anymore, let me know if you find them. I love these shoes. https://alignmentmonkey.nurturance.net/2013/this-is-your-uterus-on-high-heel
Hi and thanks for this video. I found you through Katy Says. 🙂
I have just found out that I have pelvic floor issues (prolapsed bladder was what my midwife said at my annual check-up in June) so I have been researching it some and just bought (and started using) Katy’s dvd, “Down There for Women.” Your video showed me that I wasn’t putting my weight onto my heels, so THANK YOU! I still wonder about my pelvis’ position…after doing a few of Katy’s exercises, I *think* I am tucking my pelvis but when I change y position, I feel like I’m sticking my bottom out! Do you think it’s normal to feel like that at first, or am I over-shifting? (Btw, I don’t LOOK like I’m sticking it out, it just feels that way). Thanks for any insight you may have!
It is normal to feel like you are sticking your butt out if you have been a chronic tucker. You don’t want to force yourself into alignment. Have you read this post?https://alignmentmonkey.nurturance.net/2013/how-you-get-there-guest-post
At first it’s difficult to tell where you are at in space when doing self-evaluation. I would suggest seeing a RES in person or via SKYPE, so you can get a trained set of eyes on you and get individual help.
